Clara Westbrook is a data protection and privacy lawyer with over 25 years of experience advising businesses on European and UK data protection laws. She provides strategic legal guidance to help organisations navigate the complexities of EU GDPR, UK GDPR, and related regulations, ensuring compliance while supporting commercial goals.

Clara Westbrook qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and is a practising member of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (England and Wales).

My career has spanned several senior legal roles at some of the world’s leading brands. For example, I served as Director of Legal and Business Affairs at WarnerMedia. I then took on the role of Senior Corporate Counsel at Burberry. Later, I became Head of Privacy at Arbor Law. In addition, I’ve also served as Senior Counsel for Expedia, Yum! Brands, and Richemont. Early on, I was honoured to win a scholarship from Lincoln’s Inn. As a result, I spent three months at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

In 2015, I founded Westbrook Data Protection Services Limited (WDPS) to deliver expert privacy advice. Since then, I’ve helped clients with audits, tailored training, external DPO support, and commercial contract reviews. As a lawyer, my focus is on GDPR compliance and practical data protection solutions that work in the real world.

I design and deliver data protection workshops for organisations across sectors such as digital, media, e-commerce, luxury retail, hospitality, finance, travel, and aerospace. In these sessions, I break down complex legal rules into clear steps. This approach balances legal rigour with real-world pragmatism, helping businesses protect personal data while achieving their goals. More recently I’ve designed an online e-learning platform for businesses to train their staff on the essentials of data protection. You can find it here.

  • Data Protection Compliance: Advising on UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and related regulations.
  • Privacy Programme Development: Designing and putting in place global data protection policies and procedures.
  • Audits: Conducting DPIAs, LIAs, and other risk assessments.
  • Training & Education: I’ve created and delivered interactive online courses and workshops that make complex rules accessible.
  • Regulatory Engagement: Guiding clients through regulator interactions and breach management.
  • Commercial Contracts: I draft and negotiate data-centric agreements, including data-processing and confidentiality clauses.

As a recognised leader in privacy, I hold both CIPP/E and CIPM certifications as a Fellow of Information Privacy. I also serve as a Data Protection Ambassador for the Institute of Directors’ Surrey & Berkshire Branch, where I advise members and contribute to the IoD’s data protection panel.

To make expert guidance accessible, I offer competitive pricing that delivers exceptional value. This structure lets you benefit from practical data protection advice and compliance support without compromising on quality. In addition, you gain risk-management solutions tailored to your needs. And finally, I’m transparent about my rates.
